I love candy. I love it. And I love chocolate, and cookies, and cake, and ice cream. But more than anything else, I love doughnuts. This page is dedicated to all the enablers I know, who fill my life with doughnuts and other sweet, gooey, goodies.

Fruitcake

Maxine made a fruit cake. This is my junk food soulmate, but I'm not sure we see eye to eye on this. Sure, I've never tried fruit cake. But that's the point of fruit cake, isn't it? No one ever actually eats it? It sits on a shelf long past Christmas, into the next year's holiday season, looking a strange brownish color that you might expect from something older than my grandmother, but with weird flecks of red and green. Then you save up enough to use as bricks when you build your biodegradeable, edible house. And one day, we'll all live in fruit cake houses, because where else will all the fruit cakes go?

So, I need to know. Who out there has actually eaten fruit cake?

This was truly a masterpiece. Jessica and Maxine, you guys are artists....

Doughnuts for all primates

I don't know what kind of doughnuts they're using, but if I were that orangutan, I'd hold out for chocolate frosted with sprinkles from Krispy Kreme. I'm just sayin....

It's beautiful....

I love NPR.

Isn't this amazing?

And thank you, Jac, for sending it to me.

Civic Duty

I'd be pissed, too.

Mmmmmm, doughnuts

http://cityguides.msn.com/citylife/article.aspx?cp-documentid=5354141&page=1

I'm disappointed in Atlanta. I mean, sure, we have lots of Krispy Kremes and Dunkin Donuts. But there are so few other options for doughnuts in this city. Anyway, thank you Jessica for sending me this link. It makes me want to visit all of these places. Even Texas. Because I, too, am a fanatic of all things doughnut.

Best souvenir ever

The Enabler went to The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum recently, and brought me the best souvenir EVER. A chocolate bar, signed by President Ford!

Now granted, all he saw was this artfully designed wrapper, complete with a stunning photo of the museum itself and a blank white back, which said nothing about its contents. Based on the shape, I suppose it was safe to make the assumption that it was chocolate. And so he brought it back to Atlanta for me.

Well, I just opened the wrapper, and look what I found! A chocolate bar, signed by President Ford! I actually broke a piece off before I realized that the autograph was there. But I stuck it back together, put the chocolate bar on the scanner at work, and posted it here for your viewing pleasure. It would be such a great thing to collect these chocolate bars from presidential museums across the country. Of course, someone else will have to do this, because I would probably just eat them.

Anyway, I'd like to thank the Enabler for the chocolate. It was delicious.

The contest

Yes. It's true. There was a doughnut eating contest.

We arrived at Krispy Kreme in perfect time for the doughnuts to stroll through the icing waterfall and for the HOT NOW sign to light up. We got two dozen, and they were .... perfect.

I finished my first four in five minutes or so, and then slowed down a little. Maxine plowed through her first five like it was nothing. And then the sugar high hit us and we were laughing uncontrollably at absolutely nothing. Cassi was photographed laying on the floor. And Maxine had to call Jodi for moral support.

And I held my own. I ate six. But Maxine reached across the table at the last minute and ate half of another from the spectators' dozen.

And so yes. It's true. I lost.

But I ate six hot krispy kremes in fifteen minutes. AND I ate one for breakfast this morning.
